So, What is Liposuction in Thailand All About?

Of course there's plenty you can learn about liposuction in Thailand, right here on our site - facts that will help you start to make more informed decisions right away.

For example, liposuction fat removal can be performed on your arms, thighs, buttocks, upper and lower abdomen, waist, back, cheeks, chin, hips and neck. Performing liposuction and fat removal in more than one area of your body is possible, but depends largely on the amount of fat to be removed, on your doctor's assessment and on how much discomfort you want to tolerate during the procedure.

It also depends on how much time you have. Don't forget that if you consider liposuction in Thailand it is an inpatient procedure and you will have to stay one night in the hospital for every area that you have treated via liposuction. We'll work with you to keep track of all this, but you'll need to plan your trip from Australia around your surgery needs. You'll learn and decide more about liposuction in Thailand during your personal consultation with your surgeon.

Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction in Thailand: The Difference?

If your only problem is fat removal then abdominal liposuction is recommended in order to reduce the thickness of your tummy fat and sculpt your body.

A tummy tuck, on the other hand, involves the removal of excess skin from your abdomen and the tightening of your abdominal wall. If you have fat as well as loose, sagging skin, stretch marks or weak abdominal muscles then you'll definitely want to consider having a tummy tuck instead.

If you reckon you've got significant problems with both excess fat and loose skin, then you should speak with your surgeon about undergoing both liposuction and tummy tuck to kill two birds with one stone. It's a complex set of combined procedures, but it's even more rewarding to your health and self-confidence when you're done.

Liposuction Techniques

There are several techniques used to perform a liposuction, but the basic method applied at Yanhee Hospital is fluid injection (also referred to as tumescent technique). This liposuction technique is commonly used by plastic surgeons today, no doubt the same as where you live in Sydney, Brisbane or the Gold Coast.

Liposuction via fluid injection involves the injection of a medicated solution into your fatty areas prior to the removal of fat. The fluid is a combination of intravenous salt solution, lidocaine and epinephrine, and helps facilitate the fat removal. It also reduces blood loss and post-surgery bruising, and provides anesthesia during the surgery.

Many patients wonder about anesthesia. What kind is required for lipo? Which is recommended? Liposuction is normally performed under general anesthesia. However, if only a small amount of fat is going to be suctioned then the procedure can be done with only a local anesthetic. Something that, again, you and your surgeon will decide.

Understanding the procedure, risks and results of liposuction is an important step in getting the best out of this fat removal procedure, or any other cosmetic surgery procedure. At Destination Beauty, we'll make sure that you have all the information you need need for liposuction in Thailand. We'll also make sure that you have experienced surgeons at our certified partner hospitals who will do their best to ensure your safety and comfort for your liposuction in Thailand.

Am I suitable for liposuction in Thailand?

Liposuction surgery and fat removal can help shape and sculpt your body by removing fat in stubborn, isolated areas where it just likes to build up! Lipo can't help you lose a huge amount of weight, but if your weight is normal and you're stuck with excess fat in certain areas that you just can't get rid of then you're probably a perfect candidate.

Patients are often concerned about how much weight is appropriate. Are you too thin for liposuction? Too fat? There is no clear-cut weight limit for liposuction. Still, most of our surgeons at Yanhee Hospital will advise patients who weigh over 80kgs to try to lose weight before undergoing liposuction in Thailand.

Whatever your weight and wherever your unwanted fat deposits, it's also important for you to be physically healthy, psychologically stable and have realistic expectations on the outcome of your liposuction fat surgery. This cannot be overstated. Surgery can help, but it's not a magic bullet. You have to be realistic about what you want and what you can get. If you can manage your expectations, though, you'll find liposuction a wonderful ally in the fight against age, weight and the toll of daily life.

Some Common Risks and Complications

Liposuction is considered quite safe, but as with any surgery there are risks and complications that sometimes crop up. One good way of measuring potential risk is paying attention to the number of areas or the scope for fat removal. The more places you're concentrating on, the more fat you want to remove, the greater the risk of complications. Still, let your surgeon make a judgment on this and then you can work with his or her evaluation.

What are those possible complications? Anytime you open up the body and start poking around there are some pretty common risks like infection, blood clots and other nasty sounding worries. Of course they don't usually occur, but they can and you should be aware of that. Possible complications of liposuction in particular include infection, slow healing, formation of fat clots or blood clots, excessive fluid loss, friction burns or damage to the skin or nerves.

In the tumescent liposuction technique, the anesthetic fluid that is injected may cause lidocaine toxicity (if the solution's lidocaine content is too high). If too much fluid is administered, it can affect the lungs as well. The risk of these complications is greater in patients with medical problems such as diabetes, heart or lung disease, or people who have recently had surgery near the relevant area. Concerns over complications arising should be discussed with your surgeon and can be addressed by following his or her advice closely, so we'll all need to make sure that you discuss your worries during your online consultation.

Liposuction in Thailand Starts Back In Australia

To get the best results from your liposuction in Thailand you'll be given all kinds of instructions by the surgeon both leading up to your procedure and immediate before the surgery. Common prescriptions include to stop smoking tobacco products, consuming alcohol and taking any medications and vitamins for 2 weeks beforehand. You're also generally told to stop eating and drinking for at least 8 hours immediately before your surgery. The rules are important and you need to follow them, but they're not too restrictive so you shouldn't worry too much!

When you arrive for your liposuction in Thailand the surgeon and the nurses will go over a full list of things you'll need to do before your surgery when it's appropriate, but for now just keep in mind that there is a little sacrifice involved in this and there are some rules you'll need to follow before, during and after the procedure.

Recovery After Liposuction in Thailand & Back In Australia

After your liposuction in Thailand, you may experience some pain, burning, swelling and temporary numbness, but all of this can be managed with pain relief medication. Your surgeon will encourage you to start walking around as soon as possible to reduce the swelling and to prevent the formation of blood clots. In some cases, a small drainage tube may be inserted beneath the skin to prevent that fluid will build up. All of this will depend on your particular case, so don't spend much time worrying about what might happen.

When you are discharged from Yanhee Hospital, you will also be prescribed home medications which will include antibiotics and pain relievers. After your liposuction in Thailand, you should be able to return to work and normal activities after only a few days, depending on when your stitches will be removed. However, you'll begin to feel more and more like normal after a week or two has gone by. You'll need to discuss all this with your surgeon during your post-surgery follow up of course. He or she will tell you everything you need to know about your recovery and you'll need to make sure you pay attention and do what you're asked to do in order to ensure optimal healing.

After your liposuction in Thailand experience a very common prescription by the surgeon is that strenuous activity should be avoided for at least a month. You may also be made to wear elastic compression garments over the treated areas for a few weeks to control the swelling. Most of the bruising and swelling will disappear within 3 weeks, though, and complete recovery (meaning fullest scar healing, most complete return of feeling, etc) can be expected in about 6 months.

Lots of patients are concerned about the scarring. You don't want to trade a thinner body for unsightly scars, of course! Not to worry, the scars from liposuction are small (1-2cm) and hidden from view. Treatment depends on the type of scar and skin color and we have dermatologists on staff here at Yanhee Hospital who can help you get the most ideal treatment for your post-surgery scars.

What To Expect When It's All Said And Done

You can't expect to lose huge amounts of weight after your liposuction in Thailand; However, you can expect to get rid of unwanted fat in key areas that'll definitely improve your body contour.
